Here in Washington, we like to believe that we all observe healthy lifestyles. Many of us are surprised to learn, however, that a recent University of Washington study shows that nearly 25% of our teenagers are overweight or obese and 58% of our adults weigh too much. The study cites lack of exercise as a key factor.
The Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club (BBRC) has a long tradition of sponsoring healthy communities both locally and around the world and wants to be part of the solution to this problem. On April 26th, from 9:00 am to 12 noon, the BBRC is hosting its second annual walking event — Rotary Walks! The Hike for Healthy Kids.
Rotary Walks! The Hike for Healthy Kids is a 7K walk designed to promote healthy children and families here and around the world. Our goal is to combat child obesity and raise awareness of healthy lifestyle choices for children. Proceeds from the event will be used locally to provide scholarships to area students, feed the hungry, provide books and services for literacy projects, grant youth exchanges, support homeless families, and more. Some of the proceeds will also be used to combat polio and provide clean water to children in developing countries.
